The initial phase of implementing business intelligence in Arak University of Medical Sciences and Health Services centers is underway
Statistics and Information Technology Management of the University in line with the objectives of Statistics and Information Technology Management of the Ministry and other universities of medical sciences has implemented business intelligence in the university. Among the goals of implementing business intelligence in the university are to gain useful knowledge from accumulated data, to increase the profitability and effectiveness of processes, to identify threats and opportunities, to help make better, more informed and faster decisions.
In the first stage, in order to implement business intelligence, it is necessary to first identify the needs of managers and experts, and then examine the indicators, reports and processes. For this purpose, it was decided to introduce a representative or representatives at all levels of the university for discussion and exchange of views in this regard. After that, a working group consisting of knowledgeable and experienced people will be formed to gather key performance indicators.
The following is a brief introduction to business intelligence:
Business Intelligence, or BI, is a set of theories, methods, processes, architectures, and technologies used to turn raw data into useful and meaningful information. Business intelligence ultimately provides valuable and understandable information, which helps the management in large and strategic decisions.
Potential benefits of business intelligence include speeding up and improving decision-making, improving internal business processes, increasing operational efficiency, increasing revenue, gaining more competitive options, finding business problems, and improving business market trends.
BI system implementation (Figure 1) includes:
-    Examine the needs, reports, indicators, processes of the organization
-    Perform ETL process in order to extract, clean and convert and finally store data
-    Create data warehouse
-    Data visualization and design of dashboards and management reports
-    Data mining and analysis of results
