Degree: Bachelor's Degree

Field(s): Radiation Therapy Technology (Radiotherapy)

Goal:

Training students in the field of conventional radiotherapy and imaging methods and teaching basic techniques

Introduction to Continuous Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy:
Radiation Therapy is a branch of paramedical sciences in which students learn the principles and methods of treating diseases (mostly malignant masses) using ionizing radiation and preventing the growth and division of tumor cells.

History of the field and new developments:
This field has been used since 1925 as a therapeutic solution using X-ray generating devices and using radioactive materials. It has been developed since 1951 with the manufacture of cobalt devices and since 1967 it has been transformed with the manufacture of accelerators. At present, with the addition of specialized and very modern equipment, treatment plan mapping software, software that has expanded the implementation of the devices, 3D or adaptive (conformal) treatments, stereotactics and specialized methods have been fundamentally transformed in it. Since 1986, Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences have officially started accepting students for associate degree in radiation therapy.

The mission of the training program in human resources training:
training human resources in sufficient numbers and with appropriate scientific levels and the necessary scientific skills and teaching them all aspects of the matter in terms of specialized sciences and related basic sciences and methods of care and quality control to ensure the quality of radiotherapy treatment is the mission of the educational program in the training of human resources in the field of radiation therapy technology.

General Objectives:
To educate learners who, under the supervision of radiation therapy and radiation physiotherapists, can:
1. Be effective in treating patients in need of appropriate quality treatment under optimal conditions.
2. They should fully observe the principles of protection and physical and psychological care and support of patients during the treatment days.
Of course, the above issues are different for each patient individually and it is necessary to create these abilities in the graduates of this field by teaching the basic methods and teachings of all the basics of specialized techniques and sciences of radiation therapy and related sciences.
Role of Graduates:
1. Educational
Role 2. Research Role
3. Service and Executive
Role 4. Communication Role

Professional Duties of Graduates:
In Educational Role:
A. Graduates of this field can work closely with the professors of the Department of Radiotherapy in the training of practical units, internships and scientific activities of paramedical students such as Associate of Radiotherapy, Bachelor of Radiology, and Nursing
B. In teaching practical skills and functional principles of devices and executive techniques of radiotherapy techniques.
In the research role:
These graduates with an acceptable scientific level and sufficient mastery that they acquire in this level can actively participate in research affairs, educational programs, conferences and scientific conferences with the relevant professors.
In the executive and service role:
A. Performing the treatment plan and treatment technique at the highest quality under the supervision of specialists
B. Quality control and creating appropriate conditions for quality assurance in the treatment stages from the beginning to the end
in the communication role: Communication and interaction with radiotherapy specialists and related medical staff
